“Reading the 20th century with the eyes of the present”: the Reina Sofía Museum reorders and expands its collection

On 27 November, 2021, the Reina Sofia Museum presented the global reorganization of its Collection, which encompasses around 2000 works of art, grouped in different spaces around the Sabatini and Nouvel buildings. The Museum’s Collection is the result of numerous years of research, the work of virtually all its departments. The new arrangement offers a comprehensive rereading of the entire Collection including the most recent art works from the 1980s up to the present day.

“For many artists, public space is a place to speak out against and express a sense of non-conformity, not belonging and the deprivation of sexual freedom; (…) members of Brazil’s Movimento de Arte Pornô warned of sexuality confined to the private sphere concealing a way to discipline the body; (…) from Brazil they proposed modes of counter-pornography as a medium of political struggle and an artistic instrument.”
